Aston Villa weigh up £3m summer swoop

Peterborough's Dwight Gayle

Paul Lambert is attempting to sign Dwight Gayle from Peterborough, according to the Daily Mail.

The Villa manager is looking to add to his young squad with the 22-year-old forward.

Reports suggest that Villa will offer £3million for Gayle, who scored 13 goals in the Championship this season.

The English forward came through the Arsenal academy, and made his loan move to Peterborough permanent in January this year for a fee of £500,000.

And Lambert may look for Gayle to replace Christian Benteke, who has been linked with a move away from the club. And despite clarifying his comments that suggested he would force a move out of Villa Park, it still seems the Belgian striker won’t be in a Villa shirt next season.

Gayle is also wanted by QPR, but Villa can offer Premier League football, which as of May, QPR can’t.
