Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish has admitted that having Robbie Keane at he club on loan was a boost, and that he would be keen to take the Irish striker back at Villa Park at the same stage next season.
The LA Galaxy frontman was on loan at the Midlands club for a number of weeks in the MLS off-season, and impressed with goals and leadership for McLeish’s men.
The Scottish coach will keep the door open for Keane to return.
“Who knows,” he told Mirror Football when asked about a future move for Keane.
“We just need to wait and see what happens between now and then.
“Robbie’s been a breath of fresh air. He’s a good leader, he’s a talker, and he’s a very good footballer.
“It’s been great to have him around, and hopefully, some of his influences have rubbed off on some of the younger players.
“Maybe we’ve forged a relationship now, and hopefully Robbie thinks of us first if he’s going to do this again next season,” he admitted.
Villa are currently in 15th place and travel to take on Wigan at the DW Stadium on Saturday.
