Atletico Madrid join race to sign £32.5m Liverpool attacker

Atletico Madrid have joined the race to sign Liverpool star Christian Benteke this summer, according to reports from the Mirror.

Benteke only arrived at Anfield via a £32million transfer from Aston Villa last year, but the striker has struggled to make an impact under Jurgen Klopp.

And his frustrations have seen him heavily linked with an exit, with Serie A champions Juventus and West Ham United both keen on the Belgium international.

However, Atletico are now in the running for his signature, with the La Liga giants looking to bring in a forward at the end of the season.

Chelsea’s Diego Costa is thought to be their first choice, but after the Brazil-born Spaniard ace found his groove under Guus Hiddink, Costa seems set on a stay.

Benteke presents himself as an adequate alternative, but the Reds are hoping to recoup at least £32.5million if he is to leave, which is the price they paid for him last year.
