Atletico Madrid are ready to offer £25million for Manchester United star Juan Mata, according to the Express.
United only signed the Spanish playmaker from Chelsea last January, in a deal worth more than £35million.
But Mata has struggled to reproduce his best form at Old Trafford, and has found first team opportunities limited in the system deployed by new boss Louis van Gaal.
Reports have linked the former Chelsea man with a return to Spain, with reigning La Liga champions Atletico the latest club to be chasing his signature.
Juventus and former club Valencia are also keen on signing Mata, but cannot go beyond a price of £20million.
That leaves Diego Simeone with a clear path to bring the playmaker back to Spain, having only completed his £37million move to Manchester United 11 months ago.
Mata appears to have divided opinion at Old Trafford, with some supporters questioning why he cannot cement a first team place.
Meanwhile others believes the signings of Angel Di Maria, Daley Blind, Ander Herrera and Radamel Falcao plus the continued development of Adnan Januzaj has left Mata surplus to requirements.
