Hugo Lloris, Lyon goalkeeper

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed that Tottenham are closing in on the signature of Hugo Lloris.

The north London side are in the market for a new goalkeeper, and have been linked with a move for the France international all summer long.

After a number of failed bids, the French executive has revealed that the sale of Luka Modric could well help to facilitate a switch to White Hart Lane for the stopper.

"The sale of Modric from Tottenham to Madrid is important, as is the amount of the transfer," said Aulas at a press conference, published by Sky Sports.

"It's true that on Sunday we had a lot of contact with Daniel Levy. Things progressed during these talks, both qualitatively and quantitatively, but nothing's concrete yet.

"I've informed Hugo of these discussions. We'll have to be a bit patient to find out.

"The decision belongs to Hugo who, I think, will be approached by Tottenham very soon. The clubs' positions have moved closer together," he concluded.
