The Catalan club have been chasing a new centre back for the majority of the summer and Agger has been their number one target along with Chelsea man David Luiz, who will be far more expensive.
The Danish international has turned into a key player for the Reds with Martin Skrtel either underperforming or unfit and Jamie Carragher’s retirement.
Boss Brendan Rodgers has already told Barcelona he will not be selling his main centre back this summer after the Spanish club made a miserly £7million offer.
However Barcelona are now preparing a fresh £10million that could also see one or two youngsters join Liverpool either on loan or permanently, something that Rodgers would be interested in.
The Reds would need to find a replacement for Agger before he leaves but after two consecutive clean sheets, it is unlikely that Liverpool will be drawn into negotiations with Barcelona.
