Barcelona are believed to have held talks with Juan Mata’s representatives over the possibility of signing him from Manchester United, Daily Mail reports.
The 27-year-old is being targeted ahead of a potential summer move as Barca manager Luis Enrique looks to add more creativity into his midfield.
Despite talks between club representatives and his agent already said to have taken place, no further contact has been made with the Spain international in regards to the transfer.
Mata will see his contract at Old Trafford expire in 2018 as he will need to consider his options should United continue to struggle under Louis van Gaal this season.
Enrique wants the Spaniard to ease some pressure off star midfielder Andres Iniesta and serve as an alternative option for his attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Neymar.
He has been a regular feature for the Red Devils this term, making 34 appearances in all competitions, so far scoring six goals while providing another seven assists.
