Barcelona make first Cesc contact

Barcelona have promised to act respectfully in their pursuit of Cesc Fabregas after revealing they have made contact with Arsenal over the Spain midfielder.

Fabregas, 23, is reported to have informed Gunners boss Arsene Wenger of his desire to return to his boyhood club after seven years in north London.

Arsenal have remained tight-lipped over the possibility of losing their inspirational captain this summer.

However, that has not stopped the Spanish club's technical secretary Txiki Begiristain from speaking about the potential transfer on his club's official website.

Fabregas only signed a new five-year contract at the Emirates Stadium last season and could cost the Catalan club a fee in the region of £40million.

"The player has shown his will to come to Barca but we will not do anything until Arsenal want to negotiate," said Begiristain.

"We have the will of the player to come to Barcelona, but what we won't do is start to negotiate until an agreement is reached.

"Cesc has a contract with his club and we will be very respectful."
