Barcelona star Arda Turan has revealed that Arsenal was a definite option if he didn’t succeed at the Nou Camp, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

Turan was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates last summer, but he joined European champions Barca instead, even while they were on a transfer ban.

This meant that the Turkey international had to wait until January to make his debut for the Catalans, but the attacking midfielder has claimed that he was always hoping the transfer would go through.

He went on to mock the Gunners by stating that if he didn’t impress Barcelona enough while training during his ban, he would have probably ended up at Arsenal by the turn of the year.

“I felt that I would sign for Barca,” he told Diara Ara. “In all honesty I used to think, ‘If I play very well I will end up signing for Barca, because my style fits into this team. If I play well, I will end up at Arsenal’.

“Because of my style with the ball, playing simple, short, aggressively when needs be, but above all with high quality, I knew that I could make it at Barcelona.”

The 29-year-old went on to add that Lionel Messi is undoubtedly one of the best players in the history of football, but his reason for joining was to win titles rather than playing alongside the current Balon D’or holder.

“Everything about him is incredible, he is so quick to do everything, controlling, dribbling, he goes for it,” he continued.

“But his greatest trait is his tactical intelligence. It is amazing, better than all else. He is a very intelligent footballer.

“Is Messi's presence worth signing for? No. I am here to win the Champions League. Leo, for me, is the greatest player in history but I am here to win titles.”
