Leon Osman believes that his former Everton teammate Ross Barkley would be better suited to a move to Manchester United rather than Tottenham Hotspur.

The England international has been widely tipped to leave Goodison Park this summer after failing to sign a new contract.

Barkley's current deal does not expire until the end of next season, but manager Ronald Koeman has made it clear that the midfielder will be sold if he does not pen a new contract this summer.

Tottenham have been tipped as a potential suitor for Barkley, but Osman, who left Everton last year, thinks that United might be interested.

He told talkSPORT:

"There has been a lot of talk about Tottenham and him going down there. They have got a fantastic team, but would he be the first name on the teamsheet? I don't know.

"I think someone like Man United might want him. Jose Mourinho likes his physical players, he likes everyone in his team to be powerful and big, and Ross Barkley certainly fits that bill."

Barkley had an inconsistent season for Everton, and it has been widely debated that the 23-year-old is yet to fulfil his potential.

The midfielder lost his place in the England squad during the campaign, and he was forced to fight his way into the Everton team at the start of the season under Koeman.

Barkley came through the youth ranks at the Merseyside outfit.
