Manchester United are said to have been told by Bayern Munich to halt their efforts over a move to sign Thomas Muller, according to reports from the Express.
The 26-year-old emerged as a top target for manager Louis van Gaal during the recent summer window, but was denied the opportunity to sign him.
United are said to have tabled a £71miillion offer for his services, but the Bundesliga champions revealed that there was no way they were letting Muller leave.
Van Gaal eventually turned his attentions to Anthony Martial, who he signed from Ligue 1 outfits Monaco for £36million.
There has also been speculation that the Premier League giants are looking to reignite interest in the Germany international when the transfer window reopens, but their chances to sign the forward is looking quite dim.
He featured 48 times in all competitions for his side last term, scoring a total of 21 goals while providing a further 18 assists.
