Bayern Munich have approached Manchester City to gauge the availability of fringe midfielder Nigel De Jong, according to The Daily Mail.
The Netherlands international has fallen behind the likes of Gareth Barry, James Milner and Yaya Toure in Roberto Mancini’s preferences, with opportunities in the middle of the park becoming limited.
As such, and with the Premier League champions eager to educe their wage bill to comply with Financial Fair Play rulings, a number of fringe players at the Etihad Stadium have been linked with exits.
De Jong knows the Bundesliga well after playing for Hamburg for three years before moving to City in a £18 million switch.
Bayern are eager to bolster their squad to challenge German champions Borussia Dortmund for the Bundesliga title next term.
De Jong, who only made 11 starts for City in 2011-12, is out of contract next summer, and as such Mancini may well see it as the right time to sell the holding midfielder.
