Bayern Munich’s Matthias Sammer insists Wayne Rooney is not a transfer target for his club after being linked with the England ace.
The Manchester United striker has asked to leave Old Trafford this summer and there are expected to be a host of clubs interested if new manager David Moyes is unable to change his mind.
A switch to Germany was reportedly on the cards after it was suggested that Bayern Munich were interested in signing the England international.
However, Sammer has now poured cold water on the reports linking the 27-year-old with a move to the Allianz Arena and claims he can’t see him joining a Bundesliga club.
“I don’t know what Rooney would bring to the Bundesliga,” sporting director Sammer is quoted by the Daily Telegraph. “I can’t answer that.
“I can answer that we have great respect for Wayne Rooney but there has been no contact with him.
“He’s not on the agenda. No, no. Absolutely not.”
