Wolverhampton Wanderers are reported to be in talks with Stoke City over a deal for former England striker James Beattie.

The 31-year-old seems set to leave the Britannia Stadium following a recent clash with manager Tony Pulis, with Wolves keen to add to their strikeforce as they aim to pull clear of relegation trouble.

Boss Mick McCarthy told the club's official website:"We've done what we can to try and get the players we want. At the moment we can't do it.

"I haven't given up on anybody at all. I am sure there will be some business done between now and the end of the window.

"I really think all us Premier League managers should all meet up for lunch on January 1st, all 20 of us. We would save all the messing about.

"If we all sat around at least we would know and there'd be no point going down the road with some of them and we'd be fine."Subscribe to Football FanCast News Headlines by Email
