Portsmouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic is hopeful of remaining as the club's first choice when England international David James returns to full fitness.
The 22-year-old has impressed in recent weeks for struggling Pompey and hopes to extend his run in the side when James recovers from recent knee surgery.
Begovic told The News:"Being number one is my goal and I feel confident at the moment I can do that.
"When you are playing well and things are going okay, the confidence goes up and I just want to keep it going.
"I don't know the situation with Jamo. I'm just being told it's game-by-game, but I always prepare for the games as much as I can and I'm enjoying playing at the moment.
"As long as I'm playing, I want to keep it that way. My goal is to be number one here and it's up to the manager and people to decide what happens next.
"I think I can keep getting better, I'm still learning at the level. It's a top league to play in, but I'm really enjoying it and having fun."
