The Israel international playmaker joined Arsene Wenger’s men from London rivals Chelsea on a transfer deadline day loan deal, and featured in The Gunners victory in the Carling Cup on Tuesday night.
Despite scoring his first goal for the Emirates outfit, Benayoun also picked up a side strain, that will keep him sidelined for at least a week, meaning he will miss Arsenal’s next match.
Arsene Wenger will hope this is not a sign of things to come with his frail midfielder, as the veteran suffered an injury prone time at Stamford Bridge, playing only a handful of games due to not being fit.
No-one will be more disappointed than the player himself, who aired his thoughts on Twitter.
“Very disappointed as I have a strain and will be out for a week or so,” he stated on the social networking site.
The injury will add to Wenger’s concerns in the middle of the park, as he is currently without Jack Wilshere who is on the road to recovery also.
