Benzema hints at Real stay

Former Lyon striker Karim Benzema has dampened down speculation suggesting he will leave Real Madrid this summer after spending just one season in the Spanish capital.

The France international has endured a disappointing campaign with Real although he does not agree it has been as bad as many of his critics have suggested.

He told Marca:"I do not consider my first season to be a disappointment. On the contrary, I have got some experience and I am at a great club.

"I had a great beginning to the season, but did not have the luck of being decisive in two or three matches.

"I have also had an injury and it has been difficult to play with that, but now I am very happy that I have scored and feel much better.

"I still have five more years on my contract but I am not a guy who likes to talk a lot because what I like doing most is playing football."

The 22-year-old, who has found the net nine times in 17 starts and 14 substitute appearances for Manuel Pellegrini's team, has been linked with a move to Manchester United.
