Big Championship clash ahoy: Burnley vs. Middlesbrough

Burnley face Middlesbrough in a top of the table clash tonight in the Championship with both sides on impressive runs in 2016.

Middlesbrough, the Championship’s leaders, face a tricky task at Turf Moor, as Burnley are unbeaten in 19 matches. Boro themselves aren’t doing badly, and are top of the league having won six in a row.

Just two points separate the top two and the duo have an identical goal difference with just four matches to play. Brighton, who face QPR tonight at the Amex, currently have 81 points, two behind Burnley and four behind Middlesbrough.

Burnley stars Sam Vokes and Joey Barton are both doubts for tonight’s clash as well as Middlesbrough striker Christian Stuani, who has scored 10 goals this season.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche, renowned for his mad antics, stated earlier in the season Boro had taken their spending to a whole new level. Dyche’s words may have offended Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka who has bought Stewart Downing, Jordan Rhodes and David Nugent for a combined total of over £18m this season.

Dyche’s comments make tonight’s heavyweight clash even more exciting and the Burnley fans will be hoping that the Clarets chief can mastermind a win to leapfrog Boro to reach the top of the Championship.

£18m isn’t too much money in the Premier League, which is perhaps the most prestigious league in the world and with a new £5bn TV deal coming into place for next season, and both teams are desperate for promotion.

Could tonight’s match decide the Championship?
