Auxerre midfielder Valter Birsa insists he is determined to join Serie A side Genoa, even if he has to wait until next season.
Birsa, who has four goals from his 18 Ligue 1 appearances this term, is determined to make the move to Italy this year, and has made his intentions known to coach Jean Fernandez.
“I spoke to the coach, he knows what I want and understands my situation,” Birsa told L’Equipe.
“Genoa are a real opportunity for me. If Auxerre don’t release me now, then I will sign on February 1 to arrive next season.”
The Slovenian international’s contract with Auxerre runs out at the end of the season, but with only two days remaining in the transfer window time is of the essence if the 24-year-old is to make the move this term.
