Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has confirmed his interest in Ipswich Town starlet Connor Wickham.
Wickham, 17, is reported to be on the radar of a number of Premier League clubs after breaking into the first team at the Championship club this season.
The forward was recently handed a first professional contract by the Tractor Boys but has come to the attention of Black Cats boss Bruce after scoring two goals in his last three games.
"We're aware of the lad, he's a very talented boy," Bruce told the Sunderland Echo.
"But if he became available I'm sure there would be plenty of other clubs – not just us – who would like to be kept in the picture."
Meanwhile, Bruce has allayed fears that Ghana defender John Mensah picked up a serious injury during Saturday's Premier League victory over Burnley.
"John is okay, he will be fit for next week (for the game against Hull)," explained Bruce.
"That was the calculated gamble, to be 2-0 up and say, 'Okay, it's job done'.
"Also, we have to look after John, first and foremost to get him through the next three games, but he has got a huge World Cup coming up.
"He will be okay for next week, hopefully – unless he falls off his bike!"
