Liverpool have suffered an injury blow ahead of the new season, with first-choice goalkeeper Loris Karius ruled out for two months after breaking his hand, The Telegraph report.
The German custodian arrived at Anfield from Mainz this summer in a £4.7 million deal and was expected to take over between the sticks on Merseyside.
However, Karius picked up injury in the pre-season clash with Chelsea and will now not be ready to feature for the Reds when the Premier League season begins next month.
The Germany under-21 star punched his own defender, Dejan Lovren, and now faces a period of rest and rehabilitation.
The news will offer a lifeline to Simon Mignolet, who has lost Jurgen Klopp’s confidence but will now deputise for Liverpool while the German is unavailable.
The Belgium international has had periods of inconsistency during his time at Anfield and as such this will provide the former Sunderland stopper an opportunity to prove his worth.
