Birmingham City have completed the signing of midfielder Michel from Sporting Gijon.
The Blues have landed the 24-year-old playmaker on a two-and-a-half-year contract to bring to an end a lengthy transfer pursuit for manager Alex McLeish.
Michel made over 125 appearances for the La Liga club and was first linked with a move to St Andrew's last summer.
The Sporting captain was the stand out performer in a pre-season friendly between the two clubs last August and has now joined the Blues for a fee of £3million.
"He is in a great age group and has got good legs and a lovely touch, as you would imagine from a Spanish player in La Liga," explained McLeish.
McLeish has already been told there is plenty of money available to bolster his in-form squad following the takeover of the club by Carson Yeung.
However, he has recently seen two bids for attacking wide players in Aiden McGeady and Ryan Babel rejected by Celtic and Liverpool respectively.
