Bolton Wanderers have announced that former player Owen Coyle is their new manager.

The 43-year-old moves to the Reebok Stadium after a successful two-year spell in charge of Burnley.

Coyle, who turned down the chance to manage Celtic in the summer, will take charge of first-team affairs at Bolton before next weekend's Premier League clash against Arsenal.

Chairman Phil Gartside said:"Owen was our number one target and we're naturally delighted that he's returned to the football club as manager.

"He was an inspirational player who leads by example and is a great motivator, and on behalf of everyone at Bolton Wanderers, I'd like to say welcome home."

Coyle played for the Trotters for two-and-a-half years between 1993 and 1995, helping the club secure promotion to the Premier League in 1994-95.

The Republic of Ireland international was in charge of St Johnstone before being named as Burnley boss in November 2007 and guided the club to promotion from the Championship last term as well as to the semi-finals of the Carling Cup.

He replaces Gary Megson who parted company with Wanderers last month.Subscribe to Football FanCast News Headlines by Email
