Manchester United have been boosted ahead of their clash with Chelsea as Matteo Darmian is being tipped to make a return from injury, Express reports.
The 26-year-old picked up a hamstring injury in the 3-2 Champions League defeat to Wolfsburg and was unable to feature in the two consecutive losses to Bournemouth and Norwich City.
Manager Louis van Gaal believes the right-back could make his return against the Blues, but will still be without the services of Luke Shaw, Antonio Valencia, and Marcos Rojo.
“I think Matteo Darmian shall come [back] next week and then maybe already against Chelsea,” he said.
“We have to see that but, of course, we have injuries that take a long time for example Shaw, Valencia and Rojo and you cannot change that.”
However, Darmian is not expected to be fit in time for United’s upcoming clash with Stoke City this Saturday.
Van Gaal will need to pick up three points in at least one of the two matches given that he is under heavy pressure to perform.
His job at Old Trafford is in serious doubt following speculation that the board are considering the idea of replacing him with either Pep Guardiola or Jose Mourinho.
