According to reports from Here Is The City, Middlesbrough are leading the chase to sign Gent goalkeeper Matz Sels during the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old is seen as one of the top shot-stoppers in the Jupiler League, claiming the division’s Goalkeeper of the Year award for the 2015/16 campaign.
He missed out on a place in Belgium’s Euro 2016 squad despite being called up by Marc Wilmots previously and representing his country 19 times at youth international level.
Nonetheless, interest in Sels is high ahead of the summer transfer window and particularly in regards to the Premier League, with Bournemouth, Everton, Southampton, Swansea City and West Ham reportedly in the mix for his signature.
But according to HITC, promoted Middlesbrough are currently leading the pack amid plans to bump Dimitrios Konstantopoulos down the pecking order for next season – despite playing in every minute of the Riverside outfit’s Championship promotion campaign.
Sels still has three years left on his Gent contract but appears ready to move on this summer and Middlesbrough are known to have strong ties throughout Belgian football.
