Brazil Serie A wrap: Cruzeiro’s poor start continues

Cruzeiro’s poor start to the Brazilian Serie A season continued after they could only manage a 1-1 draw at America Mineiro on Saturday. The traditionally strong club has now claimed just two points from their opening four games and occupy a place in the relegation zone after they failed to win at the Estadio Joaquim Henrique Nogueira.

Fabricio’s goal after 15 minutes handed Cruzeiro the lead and lifted spirits among Cuca’s squad, and they managed to hold onto that advantage until half-time.

But America Mineiro levelled proceedings just nine minutes into the second half thanks to Fabio Junior’s strike, and the scoreline remained the same until full time as both sides were forced to share the spoils.

In the day’s other match, Bahia claimed a last-gasp 1-0 win at Fluminense thanks to Jobson’s strike two minutes into stoppage time.
