Brazilian defender Filipe Luis has revealed his delight in joining Chelsea after the Blues agreed on a £20m fee with Atletico Madrid, Express reports.
Luis will become Chelsea’s fourth summer capture after sealing the signings of Cesc Fabregas, Mario Pasalic, and Luis’ Atletico teammate Diego Costa.
Chelsea matched the £20million release clause set by the Madrid club for the 28-year-old, with only personal terms to be agreed upon.
Coach Jose Mourinho had been keen on signing Luis to replace Ashley Cole, who left to Roma on a free transfer.
And the former Deportivo defender admits he is extremely pleased to have joined Chelsea, and is hoping to develop under the guidance of Mourinho.
“I’ve always liked Chelsea, I see a lot of Premier League games,” he said.
“I also love the city when we played against them in the Champions League.
“I felt positive sensations and when I got the offer I thought it was the perfect chance to play in England.”
The arrival of Luis could see Spanish defender Cesar Azpilicueta – who was Mourinho’s first choice left-back last season – deployed in his regular position on the right.
