West Ham United have confirmed that striker Alessandro Diamanti has signed for Serie A side Brescia in a deal worth around £1.8million.

The Italian returns to his homeland just a year after he made the switch to the Hammers from Livorno and he made 29 appearances in all competitions and scored eight goals last season.

Another £200,000 would be paid by the newly promoted side should they retain their position in Italy's top-flight at the end of the coming campaign.

Manager Avram Grant has allowed him to depart with Carlton Cole, Pablo Barrera and Frederic Piquionne in his attacking ranks and it is widely believed that the Israeli will add new faces to his squad ahead of close of the transfer window.
