Bundesliga star reveals he could’ve been a Man United player

Medhi Benatia, now of Bayern Munich, revealed to Sky Sports news presenter Jim White that he could’ve been pulling on the Manchester United shirt this season instead of the Bundesliga giant’s kit.

The then-AS Roma defender was involved in much speculation regarding a move to Old Trafford, as Louis van Gaal looked to sure up United’s defence as part of his summer spending spree.

The Moroccan international has started all of Pep Guardiola’s side’s Champions League games – a campaign in which they’re comfortably topping the group that includes United’s arch rivals Manchester City – however, the 27-year-old hasn’t been as much of a regular fixture in the Bundesliga, having made just five starts and one substitute appearance.

Louis van Gaal is widely tipped to strengthen his defence in January with United having conceded 16 goals, with West Ham the only side above the Red Devils to have picked the ball out of the net more (they’ve played a game more, though).
