England coach Fabio Capello has hinted that he will include Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole in his 23-man World Cup squad.
The Italian will name his party for South Africa on Tuesday and is expected to include the 29-year-old, even though the player has endured a frustrating season at Stamford Bridge.
Capello left Cole out of his squad for the March friendly against Egypt even though the former West Ham United star had returned to action following major knee surgery.
Doubts remain about Cole's Chelsea future but he enhanced his claims to be included in the England squad for this summer's tournament with a cameo performance in Sunday's warm-up clash with Japan.
Cole set up a goal after coming on as a substitute at half time as England came from behind to beat Japan 2-1 in Graz on Sunday, with Capello saying after the match:"I know Joe Cole very well. He is in a good moment.
"He is fresh because he did not play a lot of games. Joe Cole is good. He played very well in the second half."
