Premier League new boys Cardiff City took a step closer to signing Ligue 1 star Etienne Capoue last night, after having an £8.6million bid accepted for the midfielder, according to the Daily Star.
The Toulouse midfielder is now set to make the trip to Wales to agree personal terms and undergo a medical, although there have been reports he is hesitating in the hope a more established Premier League side will make a late move.
This will be considered Cardiff’s first major signing since becoming a Premier League club, and will also be seen as something of a coup.
Arsenal were thought to be showing strong interest in signing the Frenchman earlier in the transfer window, but now it appears the Bluebirds are in pole position to sign the highly rated 25-year-old.
Toulouse chairman Olivier Sadran has said regarding the potential move: “Now the clubs interested in Etienne have to know we will not accept any offer inferior to the one from Cardiff.”
Cardiff are desperate to add more quality to their squad as they gear up for life in the Premier League.
So far manager Malky Mackay has managed to bring in striker Andreas Cornelius, whilst also chasing Blackpool winger Thomas Ince.
