Carragher wants Wembley appearance

Veteran Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has admitted that he is keen to help his side reach the Carling Cup final, as he has never played at Wembley for his club.

Despite playing for the Anfield club for the entirety of his career, Carragher has not represented the Merseysiders at the national stadium, and wants Kenny Dalglish’s men to beat Manchester City in the semi-finals to qualify for a finale against Crystal Palace or Cardiff.

“It’s strange. I’ve played at Wembley once or twice for England, but I’ve never done it for Liverpool,” he told Mirror Football.

“When we’ve got to cup finals in my time as a player, they have always been in Cardiff. But now I’d like to do it at Wembley. It’s something I’ve always wanted.

“There’s still a semi-final to play over two legs, so it’s going to be tough. We will take the semi very seriously – as we have taken every round of the Carling Cup seriously this year,” he concluded.

Carragher is still part of Dalglish’s plans, but has to compete for a first team spot with Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger in the current Reds set-up.
