The Czech Republic international damaged ligaments in training, and has missed The Blues’ last two league fixtures against West Brom and Norwich, but is back in full training.
Portuguese stopper Hilario has been preferred to Ross Turnbull to deputise in Cech’s absence, but has not managed to keep a clean sheet in the two fixtures, and gifted Norwich a soft goal in the last outing.
However the 29-year-old is expected to feature on Wearside providing he does not suffer any setbacks; despite this Andre Villas Boas is keeping faith in all three available goalkeepers.
“Hilario, Ross and Petr have been fantastic throughout all of pre-season and the beginning of the season, so I have confidence in all of the three,” the young manager told reporters.
Chelsea have a busy week ahead, as after they travel to take on Steve Bruce’s men at The Stadium of Light on Saturday they open their Champions League campaign against Bayer Levekusen, and take on Manchester United at Old Trafford the following weekend.
