Celtic look set to miss out on Bristol City’s Luke Ayling, who is closing in a move to Leeds United.
That’s according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, who believe the 24-year-old has undergone a medical at Elland Road, and will be confirmed as United’s 8th signing this summer, as Garry Monk builds his new Championship team.
The Daily Record had previously reported that Celtic were keen on the defender, after Bristol City signed one of their former players, Charlie Matthews, on loan for the campaign.
But it seems Brendan Rodgers won’t be adding Ayling to his squad, who are just two games away from confirming their place in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League.
Ayling is a former Arsenal academy graduate, but he never got a chance to play for the Gunners in the Premier League. He once made the bench in the 2009-10 UEFA Champions League, when Arsenal lost 1-0 away at Olympiacos.
Celtic’s first leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off tie is on Weds 17th.
