Centre-back completes Chelsea medical ahead of January move

Chelsea are set to complete the £3.5m signing of Matt Miazga from New York Red Bulls after he passed his medical with the club, Express reports.

The 20-year-old is ready to pen a four-year deal with the current Premier League champions later today as manager Guus Hiddink continues his January overhaul.

They are also close to announcing a loan deal for Brazilian star Alexandre Pato, while midfielder Ramires has already left to join Chinese outfits Jiangsu Suning.

With doubts over the future of England international Gary Cahill, Hiddink could now have adequate cover in his back line following the potential arrival of Miazga from Major League Soccer.

Cahill is being tipped for a departure after losing his first-team role to Kurt Zouma, as he considers a move in order to impress England manager Roy Hodgson ahead of Euro 2016.

The United States international, Miazga, is currently regarded as one of the best prospects in the country, featuring 33 times in all competitions last term, scoring one goal.
