Championship: Norwich 2 Nottingham Forest 1

Norwich City climbed to second in the Championship after a 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest at Carrow Road on Friday. With the top two sides in the league securing automatic promotion to the Premier League, Norwich started the day a point behind Cardiff, who initially were second, before leapfrogging the Welsh side with a valuable come-from-behind victory.

Paul Lambert’s side made the worst possible start to the match, with a freak Nathan Tyson goal giving Forest a third minute lead.

Tyson applied pressure to Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy, who could only hit his clearance into Tyson, with the ricochet somehow sneaking into the back of the net.

But going behind early galvanised Norwich – and the big Carrow Road crowd – and it took just seven minutes for them to level proceedings.

David Fox whipped in a free-kick from the right and Grant Holt rose high to head home his 22nd goal in all competitions this season.

Guy Moussi had a chance to restore the visitors’ lead soon after, but his shot fired into the post and just moments later Norwich hit the front when Holt turned provider.

The former Forest player played a terrific ball that allowed Andrew Surman to get in behind the defence and produce a neat left-foot finish.

Norwich had chances to put the match beyond doubt in the second half with Simeon Jackson hitting the post while Surman went close again as the hosts held on for victory, with Liverpool loanee Paul Konchesky sent off for Forest in the dying stages as an exciting match came to a close.
