Chelsea ace open to filling vacant left-back slot

Chelsea ace Kurt Zouma has revealed that he is open to playing at left-back should manager Jose Mourinho fail to sign a replacement for Filipe Luis, Express reports.

The 20-year-old is willing to serve as backup to first-choice full-back Cesar Azpilicueta, who is currently the only player capable of playing in that position.

Luis has completed a return to Atletico Madrid after he was unable to hold down a regular role under the Portugese boss.

Despite being a right-footed player, Zouma admitted that he is ready to quickly adapt to his new role if Azpilicueta becomes unavailable.

“Because I’m right-footed I have never played at left-back. It was different for me positionally so I had to learn quickly and adapt to it,” he said.

“It’s really not a problem because the boss needed me in that position and I have to give everything for the team.”

The Blues are currently in talks to sign Augsburg star Abdul Baba Rahman over a proposed £21.7million transfer, but his switch to Stamford Bridge is yet to be confirmed.

Apart from the Ghana international, Mourinho is also being linked with Napoli star Faouzi Ghoulam, but have already seen an earlier £11million offer being rejected by the Serie A giants.
