Bundesliga side Cologne are set to sign Chelsea starlet Tomas Kalas, Daily Star reports.
According to German newspaper Bild, Kalas will move to Germany and play for newly promoted Cologna on a season-long loan.
The young Czech Republic international made his debut for the Blues last season, starting in a top-of-the-table clash with Liverpool at Anfield.
Jose Mourinho is hoping that by sending the 21-year-old out on loan, Kalas can develop into a defender capable of challenging Blues captain John Terry and centre-back partner Gary Cahill next year.
Kalas only made four appearances for Chelsea ever since he signed from Sigma Olomouc back in 2010, being sent on loan to Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem.
It was suggested that David Luiz’s £50million move to Paris Saint-Germain would open the opportunity for Kalas to see more first-team action under Mourinho, but it seems that it is not the case.
French defender Kurt Zouma, a January purchase, has recently completed his £12million move from Ligue-1 outfit Saint Etienne and is expected to also challenge for a starting berth.
