Chelsea and Manchester United have missed out on the signing of Joao Miranda after the player agreed terms with Inter Milan, Daily Star reports.
The 30-year-old emerged as a defensive target for the two Premier League giants earlier, but they will now have to look elsewhere for reinforcements.
Upon agreeing his switch from Atletico Madrid, Miranda has now undergone his club medical and is being tipped to pen a three-year deal in Italy.
The centre-back also confirmed the deal by stating that he is happy to have completed a move to Inter.
“I’m happy. Inter are a big club and this is what I wanted,” he said.
Atletico have now lost two of their players to the Italian top flight, with Mario Mandzukic completing his £13.6m move to Juventus last month.
The Blues are still keen on a new defender as a potential replacement for club captain John Terry and has made Real Madrid star Raphael Varane one of their top targets.
United are now heavily linked with a move for Madrid centre-back Sergio Ramos as manager Louis van Gaal continues his mega-money squad overhaul.
