Chelsea and Manchester United have stepped up their chase for Sporting Lisbon star Joao Mario, with both clubs even tabling offers, A Bola reports.
The 23-year-old emerged as a potential target for both clubs after the winger put in a number of very impressive displays this season.
After finding out that the Blues made a £39million offer, Man United are believed to have followed up with a rival bid in hope of luring him to Old Trafford.
Mario fuelled speculation of a move even further after his father, Joao Mario Eduardo admitted via Diario de Noticias that his son is keen on a switch to the Premier League and has already received offers.
“That’s what we will evaluate when I meet Sporting,
“I’m in Luanda and I’ll be back on Thursday, then we’ll talk. Joao has offers but he can stay as well.
“If he leaves Sporting, his preference is England.”
It is believed that the Portugal international has his release clause set at the £46million mark, with the two English clubs expected to increase their bids even more.
He featured 45 times in all competitions for his side this term, scoring seven goals while managing to provide another 12 assists.
