Chelsea and Manchester United have been placed on red alert with the news Real Madrid playmaker Luka Modric is seeking a return to the Premier League, according to the Daily Star.
Both clubs have previously expressed an interest in the Croatian midfielder, who left Tottenham for Madrid in a deal worth £30million in 2012.
Modric has grown to become an integral part of the Real Madrid side that currently sit top of La Liga under Carlo Ancelotti, however reports in Spain suggest the 29-year-old is homesick and is looking to return to England.
FIFA agent Francois Gallardo believes the players wife has not settled in Madrid, which could play it’s part in Modric returning to England in the near future.
Gallardo said: “Modric is the engine of Real Madrid, but the problem it is his wife who did not fit into Madrid in Spain.”
Madrid have shown no intention of wanting to part with the stylish playmaker, but his personal circumstances may prove decisive.
Manchester United and Chelsea have been long term admirers of Modric, with both attempting to sign him before he opted for a move to Spain, whilst Jose Mourinho managed him to title success during his spell in charge at the Bernabeu.
