Chelsea and Manchester City linked with Barca ace

Barcelona striker David Villa has been linked with a move away from the club, according to Metro.

The 29-year old enjoyed a successful debut season with the Catalan giants scoring 23 times in 50 appearances. However, the club are considering cashing-in on the star striker in order to fund a move for Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

The club have limited transfer funds and look set to move for Villarreal and ex-Manchester United striker Giuseppi Rossi, valued at around £25 million. However, with Fabregas valued at upwards of £30 million, money would have to be raised before a transfer could be completed.

Both Chelsea and Manchester City might be alerted by Villa’s potential availability. Leading marksman Didier Drogba may well be on his way out of Stamford Bridge and the club could pair Villa with international colleague Fernando Torres as they try and bridge the gap on Premiership Champions Manchester United.

Manchester City, meanwhile, are looking to strengthen their squad as they prepare for Champions League football next season. And, with Carlos Tevez’s future at the club in doubt, could see Villa as an ideal replacement.

The prolific Villa moved to Barcelona last summer in a €40 million deal from Valencia where he scored 129 goals in five seasons at the club. He is also Spain’s all-time leading scorer with 47 international goals to his name.
