Chelsea and Newcastle boosted as 18-goal target considers January exit

Chelsea and Newcastle United have been boosted in their efforts to sign Queens Park Rangers star Charlie Austin, Express reports.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs following his team’s relegation into the Championship at the end of last season.

Apart from the two mentioned sides, the striker is also being monitored by Sunderland, Southampton, as well as Manchester United.

However, he eventually decided to snub the chance to remain in the Premier League and help his current team, but is now said to be considering a possible January transfer.

Austin is being valued at around the £15million region and has admitted that he is now looking to perform on a consistent basis in hopes of earning a switch elsewhere.

“I’m just trying to get a run of games leading up to the transfer window and trying to score as many goals as I can,” he told talkSPORT.

“And if the right opportunity doesn’t come for me in January then I will stay with QPR and aim to get them promoted and leave with my head held high.”

He caught the eye of many interested clubs after managing to score 18 goals last season and has registered eight goals from 13 appearances so far this term.
