Chelsea have been boosted in their chase to sign Boca Juniors star Jonathan Calleri after the club admitted that he could leave in the January window, Express reports.
The 22-year-old is also being linked with Stoke City as well as Brighton, but the Premier League champions look to be heavy favourite to his signature.
He was also the recent subject of a scouting mission from the Blues as they are said to be preparing a move to bring him to England.
Boca president Daniel Angelici also previously revealed that he will not stand in his way should an offer get tabled, especially with the club needing to add to their financial situation.
“He could be sold at Christmas as there are good offers and we don’t want to stand in his way,” he said.
The striker also admitted that he feels ready to leave South America in order to play in Europe after helping his side win the Argentinean top flight.
“Six months ago I wasn’t ready to move abroad. I believe that right now, after becoming [Argentinian League] champion, [having played] more matches and playing alongside Carlos [Tévez] I’m more prepared,” he said.
“Even though I would like to stay for my entire life at Boca, playing European football would be a great step. […] We will see what happens in December.”
Calleri put up a number of impressive performances for his club this past season, featuring a total of 53 times in all competitions while scoring 21 goals and providing another 11 assists.
