Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has hit out at Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger for his defensive tactics after their 1-0 loss in the Community Shield on Sunday, Express reports.
Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain scored the only goal of the game in the 24th minute, and the Gunners held on to give Wenger his first victory over Mourinho after 14 games.
The Blues gaffer then claimed that the Frenchman came out with a defensive mindset following their lead, which helped them to their 3rd pre-season trophy ahead of the Premier League campaign.
He said: “We were the best team. We had more initiative, we controlled the game by having ball possession.
“But when a team is behind, the energy and intensity to turn results around is more difficult because people are not sharp.
“Arsenal defended with 10 players, they put everybody in front of their own line and they had good organisation, congratulations to them.
“They had a couple of chances in counter attacks but we had ours in organised football.
“They played their game tactically and found themselves one goal in front without any reason, included players in the back and they did well.”
Mourinho went on to add that this season the English top flight will be extremely intense, especially with several clubs spending massively on new players in the transfer market.
“This season the Premier League title is very difficult but it is very difficult for everyone,” he went on.
“The way other teams are spending they have big power in the hands while we are the same as last season. And with that we are going to try.”
The match at Wembley also saw Petr Cech face his former club only weeks after making a switch to the Emirates, and the Czech Republic international played a vital role in keeping Chelsea at bay for the 90 minutes.
