Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that he will be signing a new defender this summer, according to reports from the Daily Star.
The Blues only signed Radamel Falcao and back-up goalkeeper Asmir Begovic this summer, but it looks like the English champions are set to bring in at least one more new name before the close of the transfer window.
And the Portuguese boss has admitted to his interest in signing a new defender after he had a £20million bid for Everton centre-back John Stones rejected by the Toffees.
But despite the setback, Mourinho is preparing a new bid for the young England international and is expected to look at other targets if Everton turn down a second offer.
“I am looking for a defender to finish this balance in our squad and after that we are ready to answer anything that can happen to our players,” he said.
“If one of our players in a specific position wants to leave, we agree a deal for a player to leave and we have to answer immediately and bring in somebody else, because at the moment we have balance in the squad and we cannot lose that.”
Real Madrid duo Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos have been recently linked with moves to Stamford Bridge, with Mourinho having previously coached them during his three-year stint in charge at the Santiago Bernabeu.
‘The Special One’ is hoping to secure a long-term replacement for John Terry, who is heading into his twilight years at the age of 34.
