Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has hit out at Arsene Wenger over claims that Arsenal were unable to win the title due to a lack of funds, according to reports from the Mirror.
Previously Wenger was adamant that if he was able to spend as much as the Blues or Manchester City, then his side would have had the chance to become champions.
However, Mourinho has rejected the notion, going on to reveal that the Gunners spent even more money than Chelsea the past season (Arsenal’s £100million to Chelsea’s £82million) and that all Wenger needs to do is get a calculator and check.
Mourinho said: “If you add up the amounts the clubs have spent in the last three or four years I think maybe you will find a surprise.
“Get a calculator. That is one of the easiest things to do. It leaves no space for speculation. If you want to be honest, objective and pragmatic it is the easiest job for a manager or a journalist to do.
“They have bought a fantastic goalkeeper and that is a position which is very important in a team.
“If you put Ozil plus Sanchez, plus Chambers, plus Debuchy you will maybe find a surprise.”
The war of words comes just six days before the Community Shield at Wembley, with the two sides clashing being the Premier League champions and the FA Cup winners respectively.
