Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho still believes his team can win the Champions League despite their struggling start to the current campaign, Skysports reports.
The Blues began the season with a number of shocking results as they find themselves sitting 14th on the Premier League table despite only being crowned champions earlier this year.
However, the win over Porto last night meant that Mourinho’s side finished top of Group G as he hints that his team can still win the entire competition given their underdog status.
“A team struggling so much like we are is not obviously a candidate to win the Champions League,” he said.
“But when we won at Porto in 2004, we were not candidates. When we won at Inter (Milan) in 2010, we were not candidates.
“When we were candidates, we lost two semi-finals with Real Madrid, we lost two semi-finals with Chelsea, so let’s see. You never know.”
The Champions League is not new territory for the Portuguese boss given that he won the competition with Porto as well as Inter Milan in the past.
He must now focus on picking up results domestically after ensuring qualification as he hopes to bring the club back into the top four of the Premier League.
His squad suffered a shock home defeat to newly promoted Bournemouth at the weekend as they registered their eight loss of the current term.
