Chelsea are considering making a move for Real Madrid star Raphael Varane after failing in their attempts to sign Atletico Madrid’s Joao Miranda, Express reports.
Miranda has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League with Manchester United also monitoring the situation, but the Brazilian is set to stay at the Vicente Calderon.
The Blues have reportedly launched a £20million bid for the centre-back, which was rejected by the La Liga champions.
The offer was £5million short of his buy-out clause but nevertheless the 29-year-old has expressed his desire to stay with Atletico and is looking to sign a new contract shortly.
Miranda’s snub to Chelsea could therefore see Blues boss Jose Mourinho turn his attentions to Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane, who he signed while in charge of Real Madrid back in 2011.
The 21-year-old France international is currently unhappy with his salary, forcing the youngster to demand contract talks with the Real Madrid hierarchy.
And if negotiations don’t go smoothly, Mourinho is ready to pounce and lure him to Stamford Bridge.
