John Terry and John Obi Mikel will be handed late fitness tests ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Benfica but Eden Hazard is ruled out.
Interim boss Rafa Benitez has confirmed that a hamstring problem will sideline Hazard and the news comes as a blow to Chelsea as they look to add the Europa League to last season’s Champions League success.
Benitez also has concerns over Mikel, who is struggling with a hip problem, so that could mean a place in the starting line up for Frank Lampard despite the fact he may not even be at the club next season.
“I don’t know what the future exactly holds, but it doesn’t matter. It’s about winning the game,” Lampard revealed.
The 35-year-old could play in a deep midfield role alongside David Luiz, which would then allow Ramires to push further forward alongside Juan Mata and Oscar.
Meanwhile, Terry also faces a late fitness test on his ankle, but with Benitez having plenty of options in central defence, the Spaniard is unlikely to take a risk on him.
